The Piedmont College Rotaract Club will be doing volunteer work from Sept. 21-24 to help with a local event called A Taste of Clarkesville.
“Students will be helping to set-up and transform Clarkesville’s downtown square for the largest fall event,” said Rotaract adviser Dr. Janice Moss. “They will also participate in cleaning up at the end.”
A Taste of Clarkesville is hosted by a local group called the Clarkesville Business & Community Association (CBCA) in collaboration with the City of Clarkesville. The event is ranked in the Top 20 by the Southeast Tourism Society. It is expected to attract an estimated 3000-5000 people this year alone.
Attendees of Taste of Clarkesville can expect fine local food from over 30 restaurants within the area, as well as local beer and wine for those of legal age. Those who wish to consume alcohol must have their I.D. in order to be served any alcoholic beverage.
There will also be musical entertainment from local artists such as Mat and Ben Fried, Monica Spears, Derek Worth and Alan Baker. The musicians will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission for this event will be free to all, however, tickets are sold for those who wish to taste the food and or alcohol. Each person attending is in for a chance to win one of 25 door prizes. Any person who visits the ticket booths and picks up a guide can get their guide marked for a chance to win a $100 Visa Card.
“Taste gives each restaurant an opportunity to share a bit of themselves with thousands of people who enjoy culinary excursions,” said Festival Committee Team Leader Sherry Callahan. “Their participation allows them to grow their fan-base while insuring the success of a large community event. It’s a win-win for eateries and patrons!”
The Piedmont College Rotaract Club will be doing a variety of tasks along with other volunteers to work on the 7th annual Taste of Clarkesville. More student volunteers are needed to help set up the event from the date of this article’s posting. Volunteer work can count towards Compass Points, a prerequisite for graduating from Piedmont College.
