When you have a super busy schedule, it can be easy to get caught up and lost in the mix. I feel that there is no better feeling than taking time out of a busy day, lying down in bed, and opening up a book.
We have all watched “Read- ing Rainbow,” and we have all also seen “Wishbone,” the show about the dog who is of- ten recognized as “the little dog with a big imagination.” We have been told that read- ing can take you to “magical places,” “places you’ve never been before,” and “fantastic kingdoms far, far away!” We have all been assigned read- ing assignments in grade school, middle school, high school, and even in our col- lege courses.
We have all been forced and encouraged to read, but have you ever actually read for pleasure?
This past semester I read twelve books for leisure. Two ofthem,StephenChbosky’s “ThePerksofBeingaWall- flower” and John Green’s “Looking for Alaska” are now my definitive favorites, and have truly changed my outlook on life.

The books that you read will stay with you through- out your life, as will all the characters and stories that
Books do not only “take you to p l a c e s you’ve n e v e r been be- fore.” They have characters that can impact your life in ways you could never imag- ine.
There are situations that impact your life as much as the ones you witness in real- ity first hand. You will laugh when your favorite character tells a great joke or plans a roguish prank, and you will
accompany them. Some may feel that reading is for the dogs and should be left for school and educa-
tional purposes. However, I be- lieve that reading is some- thing everybody should do
leisurely. Take time out of your day and read a good book. Adventure awaits those who pick up a good read.
As Voltaire once said, “Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.”
